Any ideas? Yep, again, this is Saudi Arabia! I love to be blown away and Saudi is number one in terms of nice surprises. I left the busy city of Jeddah and I drove South to the Al Bahah region and its amazing Sarawat Mountains.
What a shock! The sandy desert landscapes have completely disappeared and have been replaced by a green and lush mountainous atmosphere.
The ambiance is mystical with that thick fog flirting with the air. Beautiful but extremely dangerous since I couldn’t see further Rafiki’s bonnet…and for hours!
Anyway, I spent a week roaming around the old stone villages and beautiful forests. I would have loved to stay longer but my body is not used to the cold anymore (I had until 0 degree at night in the rooftop tent!). It’s no joke up there, but the memories are immense.
So, ladies and gentlemen, remove this cliché of ‘the Middle East is only sandy deserts’ from your head. Because it’s not. The Middle East is so much more than this. And it’s also so much history, and sacred places you should explore.
Ps: don’t forget to switch your TV off, this one is being so unfair.
