Yes, I Do Feel Like An Alien!

Updated: Aug 10, 2023

…and not only in Africa!

It’s been very interesting to analyse people’s behaviour around me.

Despite the famous question ‘are you traveling on your own?’, I can definitely see and feel people watching me a certain way, especially men -since women seem less attracted by all this (from what I observed and understood).

Back when I was overlanding across Eastern Europe and Turkey, I will always remember each border crossing! I crossed 16 countries and it was the exact same scenario every time: customes officers (mostly men) looked at my car from far, they looked again, they stared at the rooftop tent, and then, they stared at me looking for someone sitting next to me or in the back seat, hopefully.

You can imagine how surprised they were when they found out I had no travel partner. Maybe I shouldn’t say that but I almost never had to show my pcr test and they barely looked at my passport. Many of them started to follow me either on Instagram (the old account ) or on YouTube.

Here in Africa, it’s even more intense since I drive a LHD and that -let’s face it- it doesn’t seem common to see a white girl behind the (overland) wheel.

Traveling alone with Rafiki has been an interesting way to meet people I’d probably never have met or talked this way. And I’m going to tell you a little secret: it sometimes keep me away from potential danger or stupid challenges. Some seem so shocked that they forget to bother me

Anyway, I hope it’ll stay that way because I just LOVE it.
