It’s official. I have left Africa for the Middle East. Rafiki has now arrived too and it feels so good to be reunited after 3 -endless- weeks.
The first country of the solo overland expedition across the Middle East is The United Arab Emirates. The reason: the cheapest route between South Africa and the Middle East was Durban to Jebel Ali (port of Dubai), at the time when I was looking.
I can’t wait to show you something completely different than you normally get to see when you hear ‘Dubai’ or ‘the UAE’. I’d like to break the stereotypes and cliché, and more importantly, to show you the beauty of this Muslim region of the world.
As explained in my stories of yesterday, I’ve been very disappointed by the shipping company but Rafiki is in perfect condition so that’s the most important thing at the end.
I don’t know how long this trip across the Arabic peninsula is going to take (between 4-6 months). The plan is to drive back to Europe, apparently, even if I still don’t want to.
I hope you are ready for what follows next. I hope you enjoy 4x4ing, overlanding and freedom. Because that part of the solo expe is expecting to be insanely WILD.
I enjoy this post to thank you all for your everyday support, love, kindness, advice and enthusiasm! You are very special.
Please note:
You can (re)watch the adventure across Africa (with many things I never shared on Instagram) on my Youtube channel (Charline Ribotta) and/or follow the expe in real time on my Patreon (Charline Overlanding).
Anyway: have fun!
(And thanks for the photo @ifitsdustydriveit !)
