See the map above? It does not say much, right? Well, you can spot what I’ve traveled so far from France (in red) as well as Rafiki’s sailing route to Cape Town (in blue).
But what about the proper itinerary from Cape Town then? What’s the route I want to follow? What will be the final destination?
Since the initial planned route of the Solo Expedition To Africa (second picture) had to be drastically amended, it just confirmed how unpredictable life can be. And do you know what? That’s fine.
I do not want to stick to a specific route anymore. I know it won’t work out anyway. So I decided to stick to NO plan, NO route, NO expectations, and this unplanned itinerary IS going to work, at least. And I promise you I’ll stick to it.
This quiet and disturbing time here in Istanbul makes me overthink even more. It’s hardly playing with my emotions but it also makes me realise that I quit my old life for a reason. Despite the fact that I’m on my way to Mama Africa, the real reason behind is actually to be and to feel free. Deeply. Rawly.
Seeking freedom and planning a route does not sound right to me in this situation. I want to take the risk to overland with my heart and to catch wisdom with my gut.
So when you look again at this map, you can see small circles: some are blue and a few others orange. The blue ones represent the countries which fascinate me the most and that I’ll do my best to explore and to re-explore. Maybe I won’t be able to do them all, for some reasons, but I don’t care about the reasons to be honest.
I want to focus on where my heart beats faster and let’s talk about excuses later.
The orange circles represent countries I’ll pass by anyway but which do not attract me this much.
So yep, I have absolutely no planned route for Africa and I feel this is maybe the best plan.
P.S.: I’ll post some stories later where I’ll detail specific motivations for each blue circle country.
