*in real time
I left France on 26th of January 2022. So far I drove 30,000 km through Europe, Turkey, Southern & Eastern Africa.
Again, the ferry was closed between France/Spain and Morocco at the time. So I decided to drive from France via the Middle East. But once I reached Turkey, it not possible to find reliable info for a car shipping from Oman to the African coast anymore. And finally, I couldn’t afford a carnet de passage covering Egypt and Sudan so I couldn’t have crossed the Sinai peninsula.
That option I found to ship Rafiki from Hamburg (Germany) to CT (South Africa) was the ideal one -even if it meant driving back from Eastern Turkey to Northern Germany in 5 days.
These are the 2 routes I drove since a year (almost):
1/ France to Turkey, Turkey to Germany (total of 10,000 km); 2/ Cape Town to Mombasa, Mombasa back to Southern Africa (total of 20,000 km in real time).
Regarding the African route:
- It’s not possible to enter Ethiopia with a foreign car anymore; - On my way to Southern Africa; - Not sure if I drive through the West coast; - The adventure will probably still last 6 months to 1 year (it depends on EVERYTHING).
PS: I LOVE YOU RAFIKI!
