Definitely one of my favourite tracks in Africa although not as challenging as claimed.
Is it because I’m used to drive on challenging tracks since almost 2 years? Is it because I know my Rafiki?
Again, don’t trust me when I tell you that these roads are easy. They’re easy for Rafiki and me because we’ve been driving roads of hell the past 21 months… way worst than this one.
Better to always follow the off-road rules:
I always try to make it as convenient and enjoyable as possible. Once Rafiki touches a gravel or any sort of challenging track, I drive in 4wd, and automatically deflate my tyres for deep sand. For the Savuti road, I dropped the pressure to 1.2 bar at the front and 1.4 at the back.
It was smooth as hell and enjoyable as f*ck! Treat your vehicle the best way and it will defo reward you some unforgettable moments!
Last but not least, this drive crosses Chobe National Park where tones of wildlife roam around, better to drive a max of 40 km/h. I personally drove an average of 20-25 km/h.
It took me ages to finally reach Mababe exit gate. But I don’t care, these memories are precious.
