I spent months dreaming about my own expedition vehicle.
The idea came to my mind when I was stuck in Gaborone (Botswana) in 2020. I wanted to find a way to stay in Africa despite of the unexpected worldwide situation.
A few months later, I had to leave Africa, however the idea never left my mind.
Overlander friends of mine easily convinced me to buy a 4x4 and to turn it into an expedition vehicle -so I could go back to Africa my way.
I long hesitated between a Land Cruiser and the Hilux. I finally opted for the -almost- same vehicle I rented in Africa: the Toyota Hilux.
On the 13th of February 2021, I bought a Vigo X-tra Cab 4WD 2.5L 144 D-4D Le Cap 2013.
And from 14/02/2021, I couldn’t stop drawing the expedition version of my dreams…a hundred times maybe…until I realise how crazy expensive the overland and off-road gear and equipment can be!
I long hesitated to get a canopy but: 1/ it’s way too expensive; 2/ it’s useless for 1 person traveling; 3/ and the Hilux looks badass without one, don’t you think?
My onIy regret so far: I would have loved to get a bumper…
On these photos, you can see some of the drafts before Rafiki was created.
I can’t wait to see my truck in South Africa…early May (hopefully)
