Because overlanding is not glamorous and that’s exactly the reason why it excites me so much. I always wear the same clothes, the same shoes, I barely take care of me, and I’m happier than ever. Because what I experience, everything I discover, it’s fuel for the soul. And when the soul is satisfied, the rest is not important, at all.
Anyway, all that to say living on the road for such a long time, you use always the same things all over again. And all these stuff get damaged at some point.
My clothes are full of holes or torn; my shoes almost destroyed and I recently had to change laces; the right lens of my glasses came off; my fridge and my gas stove were not working for 2,5 months; I had to buy a few more usb cables (and some new broke as well); I cannot connect my phone to my car via usb anymore (the cable is broken); one of my necklaces (offered by my parents before I left) broke recently as well; as you know it already, I broke the rear left light of Rafiki when I was in Uganda; and I had to replace the battery (because it’s never been changed since 2014).
Apart from that, traveling for such a long time means to collect SIM cards, SD memory cards, stamps on the passport, and tones of memories in the head. This way of life is definitely surprising and I enjoy it a lot. I really can’t picture me going back to a ‘normal’ sedentary life for now. I’m so not ready, and despite everything which happened to me the past month.
But to be honest, the only thing that bothers me loads is that I broke my camera 3 weeks ago, still here in Namibia. I was so sad because since then, I cannot take pictures and videos anymore, and that I couldn’t find a place to repair it, and it’s probably impossible to be repaired anyway. So guys, if you know a place in South Africa (around Cape Town ideally), where they can repair cameras I’d love to know! I just can’t afford buying a new one at all.
