Words will never be enough to explain what my eyes got to observe, and my soul got to feel. Iraq is another country where some still play with its truth, and painful history. But I know what I saw, as a woman traveling solo. I saw sadness disguised with a poetical resilience through genuine smiles, real beauty, and a respectable spirituality.
Look at these Iraqi military men, helping me out with fixing the shower cube at the back of Rafiki. Right in the middle of a cold checkpoint, pure souls warm the atmosphere, and my heart at the same time.
I’m aware that my personal experience and thoughts from this expedition through the Middle East will never be 100% understood. And it doesn’t matter actually. I will try my best to ignore ignorance, and to embrace truth. Because only truth will bring peace. And I don’t seek anything else, but peace.
