My Top 3 Favourite African Countries

This title is completely absurd but I couldn’t find a better one to match this post. I hate this system of comparison based on personal tastes, experiences, luck, encounters and expectations.

When I say ‘favourite’, it’s a shortcut for ‘countries where my heart got attached in an unexplainable way’. Because again, I do believe that you cannot explain a crush, love, and all sorts of intense feelings.

And the less I can explain, the more I have feelings.

I explored 11 African countries so far. And for a few of them, I got to enter these countries more than once. A proper organised route was definitely not for me. Selfishly, I wanted to please me first and that’s the result of the solo expedition: a weird snake road through Africa.

It allowed me to spend some precious time in each country crossed and to notice that my heart and my memory were acting differently for each.

For instance, I love South Africa, I could see me living there, and who knows I would probably end up settling there one day…

Although South Africa is -to me- the most beautiful country in the world (not politically and economically though), it’s not in my top 3.

Botswana was my favourite country so far. Firstly because I’ve got a special love story with the country since I got stuck during the worldwide pandemic. But Botswana is not in my top 3 countries anymore.

Ethiopia is not in the top 3 anymore too. That love / hate relationship is way too hard to keep in your heart…

But what countries strongly captivated my heart?

There is one country my heart beats faster for: ZAMBIA. Why? Again, I can’t explain. I LOVE Zambia.

The 2 other countries are LESOTHO and UGANDA. Unforgettable. Both of them. Probably these unique cultures resonating deep inside…

However, and to confirm my first thoughts before the expe: I didn’t feel at ease in Kenya and Tanzania. My experience in both countries made me feel uncomfortable. Something bothered me…

But I’d love to go back to change these impressions!
