Load Bed Finally Repaired After 10 Months!

Updated: Jul 27, 2023

Do you remember the incident in Zambia last year? When I was in the South Luangwa National Park, I refused to take the famous tarred road which goes to Malawi but to take an off-road track to the North Luangwa instead.

It took me 12 hours to reach the pontoon which take you to the North Luangwa! Deep sand, loads of bush fires, game reserves, villages, wildlife; a hectic and the most unforgettable road so far.

Unforgettable also because I finished driving in pitch dark -it was winter time and the sun decided to leave me alone around 5pm-. And, out of the blue, after tones of vibrations, the load bed couldn’t handle this last -oh so bad!- hole. The five ammo boxes + the two modules on the side jumped off and the mountain top literally came off.

WHAT A MESS! I had to get out, carefully. I didn’t want to be the snack to any predators roaming around. I decided to get out through the driver’s window, with my headlamp, a torch, and my axe.

I climbed on the cabin’s roof and point the torch to the load bed. Shit. I could see the mountain top + the rooftop completely off. And the ammo boxes underneath. No choice, I had to exit that game reserve, too dangerous. I drove 5km/h not even to make sure nothing will be dropped behind Rafiki’s tracks.

Half an hour later, three guys out of nowhere, helped me to unload everything and to put the mountain top back on place.

MY SECRET SO FAR: I drove with a load bed unfixed -and unlocked!- for 10 months!! Yep, my friends.

My wonderful friend Morne (@big_red_adventures_za ) and his fantastic team at @all_terrain_vehicle_ctr spent a whole day fixing everything again.

Thank you sooo much guys!
