Ideas For The Last Part Of The Solo Overland Expedition

Updated: Jul 27, 2023

In a few days, it’s going to be one year and three months since I left France, my family, my friends, my job, and my sedentary way of life.

Today, fifteen months later, engaged to my nomad roots, the heart happily vagabond and my rhythm overlanding a day-by-day life.

I initially wanted to leave for a two-three years trip across Africa. And to be very honest, it’s not going to be a three-year one because of my finances (remember, I was not supposed to ship Rafiki and this created a hole in the budget).

And today, I absolutely do not know what to do and where to go next. First, I need to finish the small loop (South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia).

4 IDEAS IN MY HEAD (least fav to fav):

I/ I thought about South America a lot -I’ll have to work remotely after a few months there in order to drive the Pan-American highway + shipping back to Europe (which is fine!)

II/ I’ve never really been attracted by West Africa but fascinated by Northern Africa. Problems: EAST: Rafiki is forbidden to Sudan and Egypt (Carnet de Passage too expensive there) + Ethiopia is still impossible to enter with a foreign vehicle; WEST: I need to cross West Africa. Although, I’m thinking about the West route back to Europe more and more because many travelers take it these days… but it means I’m influenced and it’s not right and fair to my adventure.

III/ I stay in Africa and find a way to work remotely;

IV/ I’m seriously considering to ship my car to the Middle East and to overland that part of the world I was supposed to explore between Europe and Africa fifteen months ago…

III/ and IV/ are my two fav equally. I’m so NOT ready to live this European life again. Will I be able to live in Europe again one day? Seriously, I can’t even think about it…
