Financial Preparation

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

It’s been a little while I want to talk about the financial aspect of my ongoing expedition to Africa. Why? Simply because many of you keep asking me about my job, my savings and else. I completely understand this curiosity since overlanding is a very specific way of traveling the world.

So let’s start with the beginning. It’s been almost 10 years I’m working for the same company and this job is my very first official one since I finished school. I’m from a large family, I’ve got 2 brothers and 1 sister so my parents always taught us the value of money. They wanted us to be financially independent as early as possible. So I actually started to work at the age of 14 as a babysitter and then as a waitress, salesperson, Au Pair when I was of age. I always studied and worked in the same time; my schedule was hectic but I always knew that we do not get something for nothing.

My priority is my freedom and I feel free when I’m traveling. And when I’m traveling I always keep it simple: I stay wild. I am wild. And I’ll definitely do my best to show you who I truly am in my next expedition.

I thus always saved a little bit of money every month since years. Just a little bit and when you stick to your priorities everything is possible I think.

.

So on the 13th of February, 2021 I invested for the first time at the age of 33: I bought Rafiki -a used Toyota Hilux of 2014. Since then, I’ve been noticed by @frontrunnerza @frontrunnereuro and they helped me gearing up my truck in terms of overlanding equipment. I never marketed anyone because I did not feel comfortable to do so. But I can tell you that preparing such an expedition alone is not easy. It implies costs because it implies safety. I’m not rich, not at all, I’ve been working hard, and I still do.
