Most of the travelers I meet along the way always have the same question: ‘but Charline come on, what mechanical problems or issues Rafiki faced since the beginning of the expedition? In case you do not want to admit it on Internet…’
Many overlanders from overseas had to face mechanical problems (minor or bad ones) and I can understand how stressful it can be, especially money wise. I admire those who accumulated many issues, sometimes not completely solved. The patience, the devotion, the mechanical knowledge, the energy, the finances, the resilience; it’s a lot of work and it must be tiring in the long run. I really admire them. And I actually learn a lot through their own issues.
But again, and again, I never ever had to face anything with Rafiki at all. I feel very lucky because it’s a lot of money and I just wouldn’t have the finances if something happens.
I’m very proud of Rafiki and what we experienced so far. He brings me anywhere without any problems…so far (I really hope this post won’t bring me bad luck by the way).
I can’t stop thinking about all the people disappointed when I bought the Hilux in February 2021. ‘Pick-up trucks are not nice, buy a Defender, buy a Land Cruiser’, ‘Why white? Black would be better’, ‘you should put a canopy’, ‘this will never work’, and so much more. Thanks to them, it just proved me I was right; I was right to follow my own desires.
I worked so much to buy the vehicle of my dreams.
Dear overlanders, be proud of your car, of your truck, of your bike, of your home on wheels. Because it’s yours. Whatever the brand, whatever the make, whatever the year, the design or the mileage, it’s yours, and that’s what truly matters at the end. Go for your own desires, they know the way.
