I drove almost 10,000 km for the first part of the trip (France - Turkey / Turkey - Germany) -in bad winter conditions- so it was time to book Rafiki for a full service check.
I first brought the Hilux to a garage -where they just ‘inspected’ the car. Anyway, minor faults have been found during the inspection and it would be better to fix everything while I’m here and before starting the African expedition.
Hopefully and thanks to the great overland network here in South Africa, @my_life_in_africa and @vanventuressa oriented me to some other good garages in town.
I thus ended up bringing Rafiki to El Motor Workshop in Cape Town where the brother of one other fellow overlander @big_red_adventures_za is the owner.
Today, I’m still amazed how passionate this owner -Renier- is about cars and overlanding. He spent a total of 3 days working on my car, making sure everything’s fine and that it’s ready to hit all types of roads. He taught me about mechanics, explaining every single operation he was doing on Rafiki, and let me practice some basics-which defo helped me to get to know my car even more and in depth.
The kindness of Morne who seemed so concerned about my adventures is incredible.
Thank you for your precious help, thank you for the time you spent on Rafiki. Last but not least, thank you for being part of the expedition. I will never forget what you did for me.
See you again on the road soon!
FYI, the following has been done: - full service check + fluids check & top up - brakes discs + pads replacement - oil filter replacement - fuel filter replacement - air filters replacement (engine + cab) - differential breather kit installation - left side mirror replacement - left stop light replacement
A big thank you to the team at @terraintamer4wd in Cape Town for providing the parts and other great and useful products!
