A Day With True Heroes: The Rangers Of Africa

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

One of the main reasons why I wanted to go back to Africa has always been pretty clear: to meet the RANGERS OF AFRICA.

I met a few when I was roaming Southern Africa 3 years ago, but it was not enough. And the more I read and learnt about these heroes of the shadow made me want to know even more, and to understand.

There are more than 1,000 rangers in the African parks, dedicating their life to protect others’, but not only.

They are HEROES. While tend to focus on this privilege to go on a safari, to observe wildlife, and to get to see endangered species, human heroes are literally risking their life to make this happen.

Let’s do NOT forget about them and I cannot tell you how happy I felt when Charles invited me for a ‘walk’ through the Bwindi forest surrounded by rangers. He let me film and interview them the whole day, nonstop.

And the Bwindi forest counts more female rangers than males btw! They do an amazing work of education (they go to the community schools to raise awareness about the impacts of poaching or how to become a ranger), of awareness (to the whole community), of protection (the forest is looked after every single day), of touristic guides (with the mountain gorillas for instance), etc.

They are true heroes and they should be treated as so -and especially the ones operating in the Virunga NP, their direct neighbours.

Many species have been saved and continue to be closely protected thanks to the COURAGE of these human beings.

Dear Rangers, THANK YOU. (I’m so impatient to release this episode on Youtube!)
