If you follow my solo expedition since I left Europe more than 2 years ago, you won’t be surprised about what I’m about to tell you.
Imagine living on the road, constantly, in a pickup truck.
I love the setup of Rafiki and I will never complain about it. But there are 2 things which start to annoy me a bit…and I prefer to talk about it openly.
Please note that these 2 things start to bother me only now, after 25 months on the road.
The first thing: I don’t have a camper (or cellule) at the back so I’m constantly outside (whether it’s too hot, too cold, too windy, too dangerous -especially in Africa with the wildlife-, raining, or too populated). I’m exposed to the outside world 24/7.
This completely suited me until recently…where I ended up sitting on the driver seat (for some privacy or weather protection) way too much and it’s definitely not ideal for my back, and my mental health.
The second thing: I still hate cooking and not having a kitchen makes me hating cooking even more. All my food is stored in 2 ammo boxes (located in the load bed) which tires me to take out every single meal. Recently, I ended up skipping meals or eating crap.
Today, I’m tired of these 2 things but I really hope it will pass. Being on the road solo is not as easy as the beginning anymore and I start to miss a space where I can just sit and isolate…inside.
I know exactly what you mean. The thing with the camper is, that you have to take decision between living outside like you do it right now and living inside in a camper. I personally took the decision to live outside, but that is a different story. All the best!
